Rest in Ascension, Don S Davis, better known as Stargate SG-1's General Hammond (and a plethora of other characters, particularly in the sci-fi genre). I was supposed to finally meet him at Dragon this year ....

I'm not really familiar with artist Michael Turner, but I feel for the man, who recently passed after a seven year struggle against cancer. He was only 37.

I woke up Sunday morning to a very loud buzzing. Mom had seen a wasp in the house the day before and lost track of it -- I'm assuming it was in my window, but the sound could have been from just outside, as they tend to make nests outside my window. At any rate, as I woke up, I half expected to see a giant wasp like in that Doctor Who ep from a few weeks ago; the buzzing was *that loud*. I picked up my bunny and left the room; and of course, when I set Alice down in the hall so that I could shut the door, she tried to go right back into the room. XD

Never did spot the wasp.

I'm selling guidemaps from the opening weekend of Disney's Animal Kingdom, from ten years ago. (I'd link to the ebay listing, but the dang link is too long for here ...) I have a bunch, so you can just note me if you want and pay the $6.50 without going through the auction, though. Please spread the word if you know any Disneyphiles ...

Since my bunny's vet expenses emptied my coffers (many thanks to those who lent assistance!!), I'm taking commissions to build my Dragon*Con savings back up, so I can, you know, actually *enjoy* the con! Also, a belated Merry Litha to everyone! The Summer Solstice was the evening of the 20th -- I hope you all had a beautiful one! Me, I had a dream about a herd of unicorns the next morning (I'm sorry, yes, I like unicorns -- especially kick-ass warrior ones like in The Firebringer Trilogy) and I got a commission done a little later that day, so I'd say it was pretty good.

In the life ...

Alice is doing well! The vet is pleased with her recovery! He said we can wait till August or even September for the x-rays -- I just need to keep an eye on her remaining teeth and her droppings. It may very wll be that she doesn't need further surgery -- it all depends on what those x-rays show and whether her incisors start to curve again. If they don't, and her x-rays come back fine, then he will show me how to clip her teeth.

She certainly has become something of a food critic -- she doesn't like that special expensive food ($35 for about a pound's worth!) that the vet sold us. She fought me when I had to force-feed it to her, but she wouldn't eat it on her own, either. When I tried to offer it to her, she turned to the side, ate a turd, and walked away. I tried putting a very small dollop on top of her regular food, and after circling it and sniffing it for a minute, she tried to tip the whole bowl over several times! Another time, she took a dump in front of the bowl and walked away! She also picked up a turd and threw it at me the second day home, and won't sleep near me. She's slowly defrosting, but I bet she won't fully forgive me until I can stop giving her her meds. XD ... She is happy to get her yogurt drops, but I have to break it into little tiny pieces and feed them piece by piece -- poor dear gets impatient, heheheh. But she can't chew it on her own, she can just gnaw and drool ... XD

Today, she wanted to take a nap on top of the back of the couch, and found my "neckpillow" up there. She was thoroughly confused, trying to stay up but slipping down. Then she found a spoot where she could fit, and proceeded to knock the pillow off and reclaim her spot! XD

So anyway, I do have the money for the x-rays ($220!!), and my money for the hotel for Dragon and my tickets for the plane are bought, but that leaves me flat broke, with the rest of my Dragon*Con savings now going to the x-rays. I still need money for *food* for the con, and there's a dinner I'm supposed to attend that's $40, and a few celebs whose signatures I would like to get on my art (that's my hobby, doing portraits of actors and getting them to sign them).

So I'm taking commissions to build my Dragon savings back up, so I can, you know, actually *enjoy* the con! XD I'm opening three slots. One is tentatively taken. Any takers on the other two? Follow the link at the top of this journal for my rates. I should mention that due to my living situation, freelancing is my only viable source of income whatsoever.

In the life ...

For those that didn't already know, Alice went in for surgery today -- she had a severe malocclusion and needed at least her bottom incisors removed entirely. My friend Trish from Tanmpa took me (ooh, nice alliteration! XD), and the vet's office was a little over an hour from *my* house, which is already about an hour from her! What a blessing she was -- there was no way my parents could take me on the man's surgery days ...

Turns out Alice had more bad teeth than just the two -- she had 8 total removed. She may also need more, but the vet didn't want to use too much anaesthesia, so he concentrated on the ones he could tell right-out needed removal, Two teeth were abscessed, and two others were causing an ulcer in her mouth from jaggedness, poor dear. The vet said it wasn't our fault it happened -- dwarf rabbits, by breed, have jaws that are too small, so this affliction is common -- but this was the worst he'd ever seen. He was very nice about it all and thoroughly explained everything. Alice will be going back on Saturday to check her progress and discuss doing x-rays (there wasn't time today, as it, too, requires her to be under anaesthesia to be done, and he felt it was more important to spend the time getting rid of the teeth he could tell right-off were bad). He recommends removing the top incisors as well -- would have just done it, even, but again, there wasn't time for them as well. The whole thing, medication and visit included, was only $374, so it could have been worse, ey? (Especially since dad gave me a bit of money as well!) The vet only charged me a dollar for the exam, rather than the usual fee. But that means I need to come up with another chunk of change to deal with the rest of her mouth (and this time there's x-rays to contend with. *sigh*) Well, at least I probably have a month or so to come up with it (and will probably need Trish to take me again since the rents have to work on surgery days, so I have to work that out *cough*...)

She's drinking water on her own, and I managed to get her medication down her and a fair amount of food. She's showing signs of being inquisitive -- she even tried to nibble on some stuff I pulled out of a file, in search of paperwork. Poor dear can only drool and dent now, not chew. XD She also pushed her head under dad's hand, demanding he pet her. She's still a bit dazed, though, and her eyes are still dilated. He'd needed to give her valium, so we're hoping, as the vet hoped, that it's just that and mild stress, and not a more severe trauma. So we need to watch her over the next few days, hoping that she goes to the litter pan and *goes* without any problems with the "end" results. The vet seemed most concerned with her digestive track, saying at this point, that's the biggest worry in rabbits post-surgery...

I'll keep you all appraised. Cross your fingers! And thanks very much everyone for your well-wishing and especially those who gave assistance!

In the life ...

Alice gets those teeth extracted Tuesday! While the guy is an expert in his field and the procedure sounds routine, I have to tell ya, after what happened to my other bunny, Hooj, I'm very nervous! (He'd had surgery, to drain a sinus infection, only to die the next day.) I'm way more nervous about Alice getting her teeth pulled than I was about my own hysterectomy last year!! XD

Again, many, many thanks to everyone who helped out in raising the money for this! And special thanks goes out to my friends Trish and Kimber, who are getting up *very* early and are driving out to my house from about an hour away, to drive me to the vet's, which is *another* hour away, and staying out there with me until the surgery is done so we can get her home. (Scheduling this with my parents would have been impossible -- they would not have take off of work to do it, not that I blame them ....) The world is not a friendly place if you don't drive, especially when you need to transport an animal ....

So still nervous but also relieved. XD
