Acrylic on 16X20 canvas paper. My painting of a frame from my fave scene in the entire series of Stargate Atlantis. Sister painting to:
From the episode "The Shrine": After his best friend Rodney McKay has something of a meltdown in the middle of the night (he's got a parasyte in his brain that's making him lose his memories and degrading his intelligence), John Sheppard brings Rodney out to the pier for a beer. Rodney wants to say his goodbyes while he still has his faculties, but John refuses -- he simply won't accept the possibility of losing Rodney. I'll be giving this to Joe Flanigan (Sheppard) when I see him at Dragon*Con.

*EDIT* Fixed his left iris & pupil (the eye in shadow, his left, not the viewer's) as per encoruagement from *Miso-no-Tsuki's critique. Thanks, hon!
*EDIT Aug 20th 2010* It opccurs to me I never said what happened when I showed Joe this! XD He loved it/was impressed -- he even rubbed it in Paul McGillion's face (Paul was at the table next to him) that he got a painting and Paul didn't, LOL! Paul had stuff on the curtain behuind him, and so Joe went up to his own curtain and held up the painting and was all "*I'm* gonna put *this* up here!" And he told me his wife paints, too.
This is gorgeous, Wolfie! I admire anyone painting on a "real" canvas, where the opportunities to correct mistakes are a lot more limited than in digital media. That said you did a super job here. The light reflecting on his face from the water is beautifully observed. His irises show translucency and the transition from light-dark across his face is sensitively handled and the likeness is very good. He looks concerned (as he was, for Rodney,) and the expression is very *him*. The background is very well done- I love the suggestion of out-of-focus lights, and that plaid must have been a nightmare to reproduce! I wonder about the back lighting on his shoulder, surely that would have "edged" his hair at the back? Also his pupils are slightly uneven and his left eye has a little too much curve across the top. (Joe does squint a bit!) there's something a little off with his mouth but I'm not sure what. Possibly the right hand side is a little too clearly defined. These are minor niggles only for a scrumptious piece of portraiture. I'm sure Joe will love it, he does seem to "get" art.

Actually, I gave it to him last year -- just forgot to post how it went, LOL! I edited the description to add that. Thanks for the comment & fave!
