Fawkes the Pheonix (from Harry Potter) in flight. This is the full version; I've going to post an extra close-up of his head and shoulders as well, here: [link]

I took a photo of mine of a flamingo at the Lincoln Park zoo and a photo of clouds overhead, and photoshopped the hell out of both, as well as added a few drawn details (the "hair" on his head and the tailfeathers & legs.) The wings on each side are actually mirror shots of the same wing. His neck is made of like four different angles of his neck. Then I made duplicate layers of the finished bird, adjusted the colour balance, erased em all in dif areas ... The clouds are many, many, many layers of that cloud pick I had arranged at different angles and erased here and there. Then I took the finished cloud background and did the same thing with it as I had done with Fawkes himself. This wasn;t even the only version :P Alltogether took about 7 hours -- hours I pro'lly should have spent doing something esle, LOL.

I actually had done a similar, much lower-rez Fawkes for my site layout a while back -- I decided it was kind of a cool idea, and decided to do a better-rez one, and this is the end result.

Cool.. I'd love to see it with more feathers added to the tail.

Wow! Gorgeous, sis!

I really do think the only thing I see that might be off is his tail... a few more feathers...You know the potter books way better than I do though, so I've got to go with your interpretation of him...but the colors are gorgeous! The clouds make it feel so real!!

Heh, I don't really remember him being described in much detail ^_^ This is just how I typically depict phoenix's, based in part on a painting I saw once as a child. I did four tail feathers because that's how an ornamental bird's tailfeathers typically are (and the aforementioned painting depicted the phoenix as an ornamenral bird) -- there's some really short ones, close to the posterior, like on a duck, but then there are generally 2 or 4 really long ones. Hmm, perhaps I should have made the short ones longer. Bah, if I mess with it, I might just screw it up :P)
